Science Plaza

At the Museum's entrance, different modules have been installed to make up a park to learn while playing. Of interest to both adults and children, as it is the entrance to the museum and, at the same time, a recreation and educational zone.

Different educational elements have been installed to help to better understand our situation with regard to the elements and forces of Nature: the Sun, the Earth, the planets, the constellations, the winds…all will be better understood playing and learning with the modules in the plaza. In the information module the itinerary to follow is marked. This is also available in Braille. .

Modules at the 'Science Plaza' Room:
Distance of the planets from the Sun
Solar System model
Equatorial Sun Dial
Analematic Sun Dial
Wind rose
Wind sock Sun Dial
Earth Globe

Discover and Imagine Room

Designed for boys and girls from 3 to 7 years old. It is interactive in nature and tries to stimulate its visitors to explore, participate and discover. Fifteen modules to exercise the children's imagination. The activities offered revolve around water as a vital element:

Modules at the 'Discover and Imagine' Room:
Odorama

The Children's Sky. School Planetarium

Within the ample fields of physics, general astrophysics and particularly astronomy, an important connection is supplied between scientific thought, method, study and conclusions and the daily observation of natural phenomena and their associated events that, precisely for their closeness, pass unnoticed by the general public.

Astronomy as the study of the position and movement of the planets has played a primary role in establishing the basis for cultural and scientific thought in all civilizations, from ancient times.

The Children's Sky is a planetarium especially designed for boys and girls. Sky watching is fun as well as being a learning experience, recreational and precise at the same time. All sessions are directed by trained personnel and the programs are organized according to the group's age.

Special sessions are programmed for the 1997/98 school year which we have called Curiosities of the Universe.

Water room

What makes planet Earth is unique is the existence of a substance, a combination of hydrogen and oxygen with special properties that make it the true vital soul of the biosphere. Perhaps our planet was misnamed and should be called by another name, for example, the Water planet.

Thirty eight modules will allow us to, for example, discover the properties that make water a unique substance in nature, make available techniques and resources that permit experiments and observations of facts and processes related to the subject, get to know some of the basic scientific principles related to the dynamics of fluids and to recognize the importance and need to make rational use of this limited resource.

Modules at the Water Room

The History of Water, 100% water, We break up water, The water molecule, A very distinctive substance, We're sinking!, Who wins?, Add up the drops, Odorama, Can stones float?, The Arquimedes principle, Transforming energy, Heron's machine, Murcia's ground, The river Segura, Scan the Mar Menor, The Water cycle, Lagoon habitat, The salinity of the seas, Hydrodynamics of fish, What size is it?, Water funnels, Marine movements, The water corner, Do animals sweat?, We live in water, From the water to the plate, Adapted by water, How much water do trees use?
What water is used for, How much water is there?, Water supply, Erosion meter, My consumption of water, Conservation area.

Temporary Exhibition hall

The Museum has a large temporary exhibition hall for up to date information on scientific subjects.

ClassroomAula

The Museum is also an active educational center where courses and workshops are programmed, directed toward teachers and the public in general who wish to work on specialized themes. Teaching on astronomy, initiation into astronomy, telescope construction and a workshop on construction of articles for the teaching of astronomy are some of the courses that the Museum offers.

In collaboration with the Murcia Association of Astronomy various sky observations have been made, directed at all kinds of people.

Information points

The Museum has various interactive information points where access can be gained to the Internet or CD Rom consultations made on scientific subjects (nature, physics, astronomy, mathematics…) as well as different areas reserved for consulting books, magazines and videos.

Shop

There is a shop at the Museum with scientific games and souvenirs.
