Welcome to the Museum of Sciencie and Water

The Museum of Science and Water belongs to the municipal museums network created by the Murcia City Council.

It was inaugurated in December, 1996 and its main goals are to promote curiosity, to approach people to the scientific knowledge in an entertaining and participative way, convinced of the fact that scientific study contributes at a great extent to the democratisation of our society and to the active participation in the making of decisions which may affect us in the future.

Furthermore, the popularisation of the scientific knowledge and method is an instrument for constructive criticism, directed both to our personal daily behaviours and to social sensitization against abuse of natural resources in our planet.

Sharing other national museums' common objectives and under the principles of 'learning and entertaining' or 'learning by doing something', the Museum of Science and Water also has a remarkable globalizing and interdisciplinary character. Science is not broached here in a subject-parcelled way, but integrated in one single matter, water, which is analysed from all scientific fields.

All along these years the museum has become a living place, open to every proposal coming from either local initiatives, such as those from the University of Murcia, an institution which very successful exhibitions have been co-produced with, or rather getting involved in European projects, like the one which gave rise to the 'Archaic Europeans and Neanderthals' Exhibition, produced by our museum and which has travelled to most prestigious museums in Europe.

Definitely, our motto is participation, both of public in the museum and of personal and institutional initiatives devoted to the divulgation of science.
